This guide takes you from a new account to a live answering bot. You will connect a docs site or FAQ, pick when Thea should speak, and invite it to a server.
The Pro plan includes a 14-day free trial. Your card is collected at checkout but is not charged until the trial ends. Cancel from Billing before then if you do not want to continue.
1

Create your account

Go to theabot.com/auth/signup and select Continue with Discord. There is no separate password — the account is your Discord identity.
2

Add your first knowledge source

Open Knowledge and click Add source. Paste one of:
  • A documentation URL
  • A sitemap URL (for example https://yourdocs.com/sitemap.xml)
  • A single FAQ or help page
  • A file (Markdown, PDF, or plain text)
Indexing starts immediately. Small sites finish in a few minutes. You can keep going while the source shows Building.
Free includes 3 sources, Pro 25, Business 200. Notion, Zendesk, and the Content API are Pro and Business. See Knowledge sources.
3

Choose when Thea answers

Open Settings → Answering.
  • Set When to answer to In watched channels (the usual choice).
  • Select those channels under Watched channels.
Then open Settings → Handoff:
  • Confidence threshold is a number from 0 to 1 (default 0.35). Higher means more refusals and fewer guesses. Lower means Thea answers more often.
  • Support role is pinged when someone uses the get-a-human button or a ticket needs a person.
After you have reviewed a few Playground answers, raise the threshold if Thea is guessing, or lower it if it refuses questions your docs actually cover.
4

Try a question in the Playground

Open Playground in the sidebar. Ask something members actually ask. You will see the reply, the passages cited, and a confidence score. Playground runs use the live knowledge and the same confidence gate — and they count against your AI budget.See Playground for diagnostics and common errors.
5

Invite Thea to Discord

Add the bot to the server from the dashboard, then in Discord run:
Thea needs permission to read the channels you watch and to send messages (and threads) where it should reply. It does not need Administrator. Full permission list: Discord setup.
Ask a real question in a watched channel or with /ask. If Thea is confident, it replies in a thread with citations. If it is not, it offers a human instead of guessing.
