Thea bills per Discord server through Stripe. Each server has its own plan and usage counters. Every server starts on Free with no credit card. Manage the plan from that server’s Billing page (owner only). You can also review billing from the account sidebar.
Free requires no card. You can run Thea on a server indefinitely within Free limits.

Free-tier guards

To keep Free usable for real communities:
  • The Discord account that runs /setup must be at least 30 days old, or the server must be on a paid plan.
  • One person can have at most 2 Free servers.

Payment

Payments go through Stripe. Update the card and view invoices on Billing.

Pro trial

Each server can start a 14-day Pro trial once (one trial per server and per billing account). The card is collected at checkout and is not charged until the trial ends.
Cancel from Billing before day 14 to avoid a charge. The server returns to Free limits. Knowledge and conversation history stay.

Upgrades and downgrades

Upgrades apply immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current period. Business is the top self-serve plan.

When you hit a limit

Reaching the monthly answer limit pauses new AI answers until the period resets. Knowledge, conversations, tickets, and non-AI AutoMod keep running. Escalations still fire. At 80% of answers or AI scans, Thea shows a banner, reflects it on /status, and can email the billing owner.

Monthly spend cap

Paid plans also have a hard spend cap (a circuit breaker). If metered usage would exceed it, Thea stops consuming those resources for the rest of the period instead of running an unbounded bill.

Failed payment

After a failed charge, Thea keeps answering for 7 days (grace). Then the server is soft-locked: the bot stops answering until payment succeeds.

Removed bot

If you kick Thea, data is kept for 14 days so an accidental removal does not destroy the knowledge base. After that, it is purged. You may get a win-back reminder before the purge.

Why AI AutoMod is metered

Discord-native rules, heuristics, and the moderation screen are deterministic and run on every plan. The AI pass sends borderline messages to a model, so those scans are metered and exist only on Pro and Business. Ticket triage uses the same allowance.
