Answering settings control when Thea looks for questions and how it replies. Confidence and escalation live on a separate page: Confidence and escalation. Open Settings → Answering, Settings → Handoff, Settings → Safety, or Settings → General depending on the control.

When to answer

In Settings → Answering, choose a trigger: The same control is available as /config set trigger in Discord.

Watched channels

When the trigger is In watched channels, pick the text and forum channels Thea should watch. This is the same list /setup writes when you run it in Discord.
Start with one or two help channels. Add more after you have reviewed answers in Conversations and the Playground.

Reply in the asker’s language

Turn on Match the asker’s language if members write in languages your docs are not written in. Thea still grounds the answer in your sources; it only changes the language of the reply. This applies to Discord answers and to /ask.

Duplicate questions

When a new question is nearly identical to one Thea already answered, it can link to that thread instead of generating a new answer.
  • Redirects do not count against your monthly answer quota.
  • Similarity is a number from 0.5 to 1. Higher is stricter.
  • Lookback is up to 90 days.
Configure this under Settings → Answering → Duplicate questions.

Tidy resolved threads

When a member marks an answer helpful, Thea can close and archive the thread it opened. Anyone can reopen it by replying. This only applies to threads Thea created for its own answers.

Extra instructions

Settings → General → Extra instructions is trusted persona text (up to 2,000 characters). Use it for tone, support hours, or things you always want mentioned. These instructions cannot override grounding. If the sources do not contain the answer, Thea still refuses. The same text is available as /config set persona.

Display name

Settings → General → Display name is how Thea introduces itself in answers and its nickname in the server. Saving renames the bot in Discord. Thea needs the Change Nickname permission. The Discord application name itself is set in the Discord Developer Portal.

Ask privately with /ask

Any member can ask Thea a question without posting it in a channel:
The reply is ephemeral — only the asker sees it. It still uses your knowledge sources, confidence threshold, language matching, and monthly answer quota.

Rate limits

Each plan also caps how fast questions can arrive: Hitting a rate limit does not consume an answer. The member can try again shortly.
