Why your account is blacklisted

Thea’s global blacklist is an optional safety feature for Discord servers. Your account is listed only after at least three different human moderators across three different participating servers independently issue permanent bans through Thea within a rolling 90-day period.

Why you were listed

A ban contributes to the threshold only when all of these conditions are true:

• The server has opted in to the global blacklist.
• The ban is permanent.
• The ban was explicitly authorized by a human moderator through Thea, using either the moderator ban command or the Ban action in an identity review.
• The ban was initiated by that server. It was not caused by an existing global-blacklist listing.
• The ban happened within the last 90 days.

The bans must come from different servers and different Discord moderator accounts. Several bans from the same server still count as one server signal, and one moderator acting across several servers still counts as one moderator. Timeouts, kicks, temporary bans, softbans, automatic AutoMod or raid bans, native Discord bans, bans from another bot, and actions caused by the global blacklist do not count toward the threshold.

What happens after you are listed

Thea sends your Discord account a direct message containing:

• A public reference such as BL-213131
• A private, expiring link to your status page
• A short explanation of the threshold
• Access to the appeal form

Participating servers choose how they respond:

Review mode

Thea applies a 24-hour timeout and sends the server’s moderators an Allow or Ban decision. Choosing Allow creates an exception for that server and that blacklist reference.

Auto-ban mode

Thea bans the account automatically and records that the ban came from the global-blacklist listing. Thea checks members who are already in a participating server and members who join later. If Thea lacks the required Discord permission, it records the failed action and alerts that server’s moderators instead of silently treating it as successful.

Understand your BL- reference

Each listing receives a reference such as BL-213131. You can safely quote this reference when contacting support because it cannot open your status page or identify the contributing servers by itself. Your private link is different. Anyone holding it may be able to view the limited status page and submit the listing’s one appeal.

View your status

The page does not reveal the names of contributing servers, their internal records, or their ban reasons. Participating servers also cannot inspect the other contributors, your appeal statement, or anyone else’s blacklist record.

Submit an appeal

You can submit one appeal for each blacklist listing.

1. Open the private link from Thea’s direct message.
2. Explain why you believe the listing should be reviewed.
3. Select Submit appeal.
4. Wait for Thea’s trust and safety staff to review the qualifying signals and your statement.

Keep your statement focused on the listing. Do not include passwords, authentication tokens, private server conversations, or personal information that is not needed to review the decision. Your appeal is reviewed by a person. The participating servers cannot read what you submit.

Appeal upheld

The listing remains active until it expires or no longer has enough qualifying signals. Thea sends you the decision using your original BL- reference.

Appeal accepted

Thea removes the listing and prevents its existing signals from silently recreating the same listing. It then queues reversals for actions caused by that listing:

• A review timeout created by the listing is cleared.
• A ban created automatically by the listing is removed.
• Future blacklist enforcement for that listing stops.

Thea does not remove independent bans issued by a server’s moderators, AutoMod, raid protection, or another local moderation system. Those decisions belong to the server that issued them. A new human-authorized permanent Thea ban from a participating server after the appeal decision can count as new evidence. If both the server and moderator thresholds are reached again, Thea creates a new listing with a new BL- reference and a new appeal.

Other ways a listing can end

An active listing is removed automatically when fewer than three qualifying server signals or fewer than three distinct moderator signals remain. This can happen when:

• A contributing server reverses its permanent ban.
• A contributing server opts out of the global blacklist.
• A qualifying signal reaches the end of its 90-day window.
• Thea staff accept your appeal.

When this happens, Thea reverses only the restrictions it created for that listing. Local server decisions remain in place.

What Thea stores

For each qualifying signal, Thea stores the affected Discord user ID, authorizing moderator’s Discord user ID, participating server ID, type of Thea moderation action, and timestamp. It does not store message content as part of the global-blacklist signal. Signals stop counting after 90 days and are deleted. Thea retains the minimum listing reference, dates, aggregate outcome, and staff decision needed to preserve the appeal result.
