# Global blacklist for servers

> Opt your server into Thea's shared permanent-ban signal, choose review or automatic ban, and understand what gets listed.

The global blacklist is an optional, shared signal: a Discord account that has been permanently banned through Thea by **three different human moderators across three different participating servers** within **90 days**. Your server decides whether to use that signal, and how strongly.

  This setting appears under **Settings → AutoMod → Global blacklist** when Thea
  has enabled it for your server. It is a canary feature: if you do not see the
  card, it is not available on this install yet.

## How a listing is created

An account is listed only when all of these are true:

* Each contributing server has opted in to the global blacklist.
* Each ban is **permanent**.
* Each ban was explicitly authorized **through Thea by a human moderator** — either with the moderator ban command or the Ban action in an identity review.
* The ban was that server's own decision, not a follow-on from an existing listing.
* The three bans happened in the last **90 days**, came from **different** servers, and were authorized by **different** Discord moderator accounts.

Timeouts, kicks, temporary bans, softbans, automatic AutoMod or raid bans, native Discord bans, bans from another bot, and bans caused by the blacklist itself do **not** count. One moderator banning the same account through several participating servers still contributes only one independent moderator.

Participating servers never see which other servers contributed, and they never see another server's ban reasons.

## Modes

| Mode              | What Thea does when a listed account is already in the server or joins                                                                          |
| ----------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Off**           | Ignore the list. This server does not send signals and does not act on listings.                                                                |
| **Review**        | Apply a 24-hour timeout and post **Allow** / **Ban** buttons in your AutoMod log channel. **Allow** creates a local exception for that listing. |
| **Automatic ban** | Ban the account and record that the ban came from the global blacklist.                                                                         |

Review mode needs an AutoMod [log channel](/moderation/automod). Without one, Thea cannot present the decision buttons.

If Thea lacks **Ban Members** (or **Moderate Members** for the review timeout), it logs the failed action and alerts your staff instead of pretending it succeeded.

## Turning the feature off

Switching to **Off**:

* Withdraws this server's signals from the shared list.
* Reverses only restrictions Thea can prove *this feature* created (for example, a timeout or ban it applied because of a listing).
* Never lifts a ban a moderator issued themselves.

## Privacy

* Other servers never learn your server identity from a signal you contributed.
* Other participating servers never learn which moderator authorized a signal.
* Members who are listed receive a `BL-` reference and a private appeal link from Thea, not from your server.
* Appeals go to Thea trust and safety, not to your moderators.
